Happy New Year from GigGuide.tw!
We hope your hangovers have cleared and your 2012 is off to a great start!
There is a lot of awesomeness to look forward to this year, not only from an onslaught of excellent foreign artists scheduled to hit Taiwan, but also from within our own talented local scene. To whet your appetites, we've asked a few bands (& promoters) - both veterans and relative newcomers - to share their thoughts on the year to come.
We've asked everyone the same 3 questions:
1. What are your hopes and plans for 2012?
2. Can we look forward to any new recordings/albums?
3. Will you be doing any touring?
Ohhh, can't wait, so let's go!
2011 was a good year 'cause we got a new ass-kicking drummer.
We've received many complaints that Bowztiger's live performance and our album differ in many ways, so we'll probably re-record some songs from "Highway Children" for an EP. In the meantime we are putting together some thoughts for our 2nd album.
Hope 2012 is as fun as 2011, if not better.
1. We have plans to have our 1st Predator Production festival
2. Welcome to the Underworld Vol.2 live recording
3. Radio Rave, the Online festival.
4. More and more T-shirts.
Because our drummer was fulfilling his mandatory military service in 2011, we only had few gigs and wrote one or two songs . We had little performance then, but our drummer had left the army on September, 2011 and returned to our band. I think we can start striving for creating funnier and more fantastic new songs now. By the way, we will have secret weapon-both new person and new object-adding to our performances recently. I believe Lily et Coco would surely have a brand new atmosphere and rise again in 2012!
The biggest goal in 2012 is keep writing new songs. If we can cumulative to a number of songs we satisfied, I think we will start our new EP or album recording plan very soon.
In the past years, besides the shows in Taipei, we only have been to Tainan and Kenting . We feel so happy going outside for performances, lingering around and enjoying the fantastic snacks. When all members in our band are more stable , we would arrange gigs and travel to somewhere like Kaohsiung, Taichung and even Taitung, Hualien, etc.
Our new toy：
（1）Guitar：I start using new guitar Fender Jazzmaster. It has more powerful and special sound. It suits our songs a lot.
（2）Drummer：I bought a new sampling pad (Roland SPD-SX). By adding some new rhythm into our songs, I hope I can have a new point of view on music arrangement which is different from traditional composer.
（3）Bass：I bought two new pedals, one is EHX MICRO POG and another is ROLAND RC-20XL. I always hope my bass can be more than bass. It can be funnier and more interesting. These two pedals let me had a great time playing different sound effect!
（4）Keys：I start using FMR Really Nice Compressor (RNC1173) recently. It can not only control sound volume fluctuation more precisely but also create a more powerful total timbre.
The most important of all, we start playing with an old friend recently. We are looking forward to the brand new style of Lily et Coco!
We'll release our album, hope it will be good, and people would like the transformation of Go Chic. (We are) not sure the exact day, hope not too late this year.
No plans for big touring yet. We are still preparing for new set of live performance. When we're ready, we'll start on tour again.
For Bounce Girlz, we're going to move our routine event UnderU from Wednesday to the weekend, once a month, same place at Underworld. It'll be only 100 NT for entry and will feature different guest DJs every month, more cool fresh tunes for everyone. Keep following our FB page for more details.
We hope to record the first She Bang-a album this year. We’ll probably get a friend to help us make it, because we don’t have enough money for a real studio recording. We want to get the album done so we can work on new material and keep people interested in coming to our shows.
Gus is designing a band logo. It’ll be a mosquito, as you would expect. We’ll make some stickers and possibly small buttons to hand out. We’re also considering changing the English transliteration of our Taiwanese band name to the more streamlined Shebanga or Shemanga.
We’ve recently added some new equipment to the band. Gus put down his ancient Fender bass for a new Ibanez ATK 200 with active electronics. Hide the children! Stan got a Boss Blues Driver overdrive pedal in hopes of gaining some control over his tone and volume.
We don’t have any specific plans to play outside of Taipei, but we would love to play other cities around Taiwan this year. We always hear good stories about beer and crazy crowds at TCRC in Tainan, and Taichung and Kaohsiung would be fun also. And, we would like to play in Japan or China if someone would pay for us to do it.
Wonfu will release a new album in 2012, around March or April.
Of course we will do touring!
We do touring and dancing!
All of Wonfu's touring and daily news will release at Wonfu's facebook site.
My very first hope it's that there will actually be a band called Duda Deportiva next year. Until now it's been a solo project by circumstances, not conviction. It's been really nice to release new songs after so long, and to have a bunch of really good musician friends helping out – The first single wouldn't have been possible without the help of Warren (1976), Zac (1976) and Dylan (Telephone Booth), but I miss playing with a real band. It's always more challenging to shape songs with other people giving you their point of view.
I also have in mind to start playing live during 2012, but that depends on how fast I'll be finding new members. I have been offered to play by myself in the meantime, but I always feel the songs will fall into boredom if I play them alone.
Anyway, I'm a laboratory rat, and I love to mess around in the studio, so new tracks will keep appearing in the near future, with or without a band. The idea is to release a few songs, but more often.
I'm giving 200 copies of my first single as a free Christmas download until January 6th, as that's when Christmas ends in Spain.
(Unfamiliar Friends Party)
We're going to make a new album in 2012,
The concept would be "totally unfamiliar friends party"...it must be fun!
we'll start some new projects next year, follow us on facebook and stay tuned...(噓)
My music has grown this past year from solo performances to a 2-piece. I'm so happy to be playing with my drummer Colin and to have just enjoyed our first gig together.
As my music is very personal, I really care about finding people I can trust to help it along. Working with friends makes everything better, so I feel very fortunate to be creating and recording with talented people I can laugh with.
We look forward to adding a bassist, which will free up my playing, allow me to jump around more, and also expand our repertoire. I'm always writing new stuff, but there are some older songs I can't wait to share, like some of my surf-rock tunes. Other songs only exist in demo form and I'm anxious to bring them to life.
I want to record as much as I can. I've got plans for several albums, even a country album is in the works! Can I do it all this year? I'm gonna try!
My drummer and I, we wanna rock as much as possible. Touring Japan would be a dream come true, but playing at home here in Taiwan is no less special.
The most important thing, however, is to always have fun. We hope you can join us!
